Cool links
We had a day at home today. We got into a little more Christmas crafts… no photos today… And we just hung out. Drew and Phoebe took turns shoveling the deck, and I made a few phone calls to look into health insurance for the new year. Hopefully I will get some good rates back soon. We also did a few things to get ready for the big storm headed our way– replaced batteries in our flashlights, filled buckets of water (for flushing toilets) and emptied our RO system twice for drinking water. Other than that I think we are ready– so bring on the big snowstorm! We are expecting 18+ inches tonight — and we are all pretty excited.
Today I thought I would pass on a few links I have been enjoying
First, this is the coolest recipe site– I am very impressed! If you only have a few food items in your pantry/fridge– just plug them into this website and it will give you recipes based on what you have to cook with– I have made two dinners from this site– and they have been great!! Supercook
Second, here is a nice article about Santa. When Drew was just a baby I read an article similar to this, about how the idea of Santa can erode trust between parents and small children… and so Andy and I (being the trendy parents we thought we were) decided to be up front with Drew from day one. I often have regretted this– or better said I often wonder what is really the best way to present the story. And I guess that is it– it is a beautiful story– and we hope to keep the magic and wonder alive about santa, but in the same moment not subscribe to the very coercive 'if you are good santa will bring you toys…' that just does not seem right to me. And for many children the let down of finding out Santa is not real may not be as devastating as the author describes…so what to do? How do you all approach Santa and Christmas with your young children?
And third here is a beautiful website that I hope to someday order from for Hadley (maybe from Santa… ha!) Are these not the most beautiful dolls you have ever seen?? Bamboletta
Well– happy snow to everyone in Northern Michigan! And I will try to post some pictures soon!
